Local Support Groups for People Diagnosed with Mental Illness and Their Families

Family Support Group

Provides support for the parents and caregivers of the mentally ill in order to help them gain a better understanding of mental illness, learn effective communication, recognize psychotic warning signs and regain their own lives.

Provides recovery and support for those diagnosed with mental illness. Learn from others’ experiences, share coping strategies, offer encouragement and hope to others. Led by trained individuals who are in recovery themselves.

Local Support Group for Latino Families

Nuestra Familia Support Group

This support group is designed for caregivers of adult Hispanic family members with diagnosed mental illness in Lorain County. It meets at The Nord Center, 6140 S. Broadway, Lorain, Ohio, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., the third and last Wednesday of each month. Register by calling 440-204-4391.

The Support Group provides opportunity to learn about the challenges of mental illness, how to navigate through the mental health system, communication skills, problem solving, crisis preparation and response, coping with challenging behavior, and most of all, enabling caregivers to take the best care of the entire family, especially themselves!


LGBT Support Group 

LGBT Support Group through Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services of Lorain County

This support group is for adults who have  questions about LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) issues, or need LGBT support. It meets in the BU113K classroom at Lorain County Community College on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
