Pamela Hyde inspires Lorain County mental health community

Our speaker Pamela Hyde drew our biggest crowd in years for our 2016 Annual Luncheon. Her talk was an education and inspiration on the challenges and opportunities within mental health care.

Ms. Hyde is a national leader in behavioral health and recovery, and former Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

In her presentation, “Emerging Policies and Practices — Challenges and Opportunities, Ms. Hyde discussed the changing state of mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery in the U.S., discussing the revolution in the perception and treatment of behavioral health conditions in the context of the changes in the larger health care sector.

Emerging attitudes, understandings, research, policies, and payment approaches bring new opportunities, as well as new challenges for those who experience mental health and substance use issues and for those who work in the field. Ms. Hyde offered reflections on how these changes will and should be affecting our work as leaders and advocates.
