Being an athlete or a sports fan can be great for your social and mental health. You are part of a group, a tribe, a sports family. But, it can also be stressful.
If you are feeling down after a sports loss, get together with friends or teammates. Have fun, look forward to the next game. But if you are feeling down or irritable for a couple weeks or more, or if you are having highs and lows in your mood that affect your sleep or job, it might be more than just being off your game. It might be depression.
